SEATTLE, WA--(Marketwired - Sep 5, 2013) - Europe's improving economy is starting to reflect in equity market performance in the third quarter, according to the Russell Indexes.
- For the third quarter as of September 3, the Russell Developed Europe Index has returned 6.3%, outperformed the Russell 1000® Index, which returned 1.6% for the same time period.
- The Russell Developed Europe Dynamic Index returned 9.8% for the third quarter as of September 3 compared to the Russell Developed Europe Defensive Index, with a 3.9% return for the same time period.
- Russell Developed Europe Index country constituents Italy (11.8%) and Spain (10.6%) have been notable standouts in the third quarter as of September 3, among the top four performing constituents in the Index.
"We are seeing a friendlier environment for European equities in recent months as the Eurozone appears to be emerging from recession. And this appears to have attracted some investors interested in taking on companies and countries which may be considered more risky," said Wouter Sturkenboom, investment strategist for Russell Investments Europe. "As Europe begins to improve economically, the European equity markets are also improving."
