Potential Sensient Technologies Corporation (NYSE:SXT) shareholders may wish to note that the Independent Director, Joseph Carleone, recently bought US$111k worth of stock, paying US$55.65 for each share. That's a very decent purchase to our minds and it grew their holding by a solid 21%.
Sensient Technologies Insider Transactions Over The Last Year
In fact, the recent purchase by Joseph Carleone was the biggest purchase of Sensient Technologies shares made by an insider individual in the last twelve months, according to our records. That means that an insider was happy to buy shares at above the current price of US$54.85. While their view may have changed since the purchase was made, this does at least suggest they have had confidence in the company's future. We always take careful note of the price insiders pay when purchasing shares. As a general rule, we feel more positive about a stock when an insider has bought shares at above current prices, because that suggests they viewed the stock as good value, even at a higher price. The only individual insider to buy over the last year was Joseph Carleone.

Does Sensient Technologies Boast High Insider Ownership?
I like to look at how many shares insiders own in a company, to help inform my view of how aligned they are with insiders. Usually, the higher the insider ownership, the more likely it is that insiders will be incentivised to build the company for the long term. It appears that Sensient Technologies insiders own 0.8% of the company, worth about US$19m. This level of insider ownership is good but just short of being particularly stand-out. It certainly does suggest a reasonable degree of alignment.
