Index, ETF option volumes near midday

Total option volume is expectedly light at just 3.6 million contracts so far today, with bullish sentiment in many of the major indexes and ETFs, optionMONSTER's data systems show.

The SPDR S&P 500 Fund (SPY) has 528,000 contracts traded, with calls just outpacing puts. Next up are the S&P 500 Index (:SPX) options at 117,000, led by 78,000 puts. Just behind are the iShares Russell 2000 Fund (IWM) options at 112,000, dominated by 97,000 puts.

The iShares Emerging Markets Fund (EEM) has 100,000 contracts changing hands, with 73,000 calls. The iPath S&P 500 VIX Short Term-Futures ETN (VXX) has seen 74,000 options turn over, with 53,000 puts. Just behind are the options of the CBOE Volatility Index (:VIX) at 72,000, with 45,000 calls. The SPDR Gold Shares Fund (GLD) has 69,000 options traded, with calls slightly outpacing puts.
