We've lost count of how many times insiders have accumulated shares in a company that goes on to improve markedly. Unfortunately, there are also plenty of examples of share prices declining precipitously after insiders have sold shares. So before you buy or sell Checkpoint Therapeutics, Inc. (NASDAQ:CKPT), you may well want to know whether insiders have been buying or selling.
What Is Insider Selling?
It's quite normal to see company insiders, such as board members, trading in company stock, from time to time. However, most countries require that the company discloses such transactions to the market.
Insider transactions are not the most important thing when it comes to long-term investing. But it is perfectly logical to keep tabs on what insiders are doing. For example, a Columbia University study found that 'insiders are more likely to engage in open market purchases of their own company’s stock when the firm is about to reveal new agreements with customers and suppliers'.
The Last 12 Months Of Insider Transactions At Checkpoint Therapeutics
Over the last year, we can see that the biggest insider purchase was by Non-Executive Director Lindsay Rosenwald for US$229k worth of shares, at about US$2.35 per share. So it's clear an insider wanted to buy, at around the current price, which is US$2.75. That means they have been optimistic about the company in the past, though they may have changed their mind. If someone buys shares at well below current prices, it's a good sign on balance, but keep in mind they may no longer see value. The good news for Checkpoint Therapeutics share holders is that an insider was buying at near the current price. Lindsay Rosenwald was the only individual insider to buy shares in the last twelve months.
