Have Insiders Been Buying RiceBran Technologies (NASDAQ:RIBT) Shares This Year?

Simply Wall St
·4 min read

We often see insiders buying up shares in companies that perform well over the long term. On the other hand, we'd be remiss not to mention that insider sales have been known to precede tough periods for a business. So shareholders might well want to know whether insiders have been buying or selling shares in RiceBran Technologies (NASDAQ:RIBT).

What Is Insider Buying?

It's quite normal to see company insiders, such as board members, trading in company stock, from time to time. However, most countries require that the company discloses such transactions to the market.

Insider transactions are not the most important thing when it comes to long-term investing. But logic dictates you should pay some attention to whether insiders are buying or selling shares. As Peter Lynch said, 'insiders might sell their shares for any number of reasons, but they buy them for only one: they think the price will rise'.

RiceBran Technologies Insider Transactions Over The Last Year

Over the last year, we can see that the biggest insider purchase was by Independent Director David Chemerow for US$100k worth of shares, at about US$1.25 per share. That means that even when the share price was higher than US$0.53 (the recent price), an insider wanted to purchase shares. Their view may have changed since then, but at least it shows they felt optimistic at the time. We always take careful note of the price insiders pay when purchasing shares. It is generally more encouraging if they paid above the current price, as it suggests they saw value, even at higher levels.

In the last twelve months insiders purchased 216.00k shares for US$270k. But insiders sold 1.50k shares worth US$2.1k. Overall, RiceBran Technologies insiders were net buyers during the last year.
