InterDigital shares rise above $40 with 6% advance

Shares of InterDigital (IDCC), which holds a patent portfolio that includes technology used in mobile devices such as cellular phones, tablets and notebooks, advanced over 6% in late morning trading, compared to a 1.4% advance for the Nasdaq index. Some of the strength in InterDigital was being attributed to a court filing from Apple (AAPL), made public yesterday, stating that the smartphone maker was willing to pay Google's (GOOG) Motorola unit “up to” $1 per Apple mobile device shipped to license Motorola's cellular and Wi-Fi patent portfolio. The Fly notes that analysts have previously said that InterDigital’s mobile-related patent portfolio compares in some respects to Motorola's patent holdings. In late morning trading, shares of InterDigital jumped $2.29, or 6.01%, to $40.38.
