MT. HOOD, OR --(Marketwired - April 09, 2013) - With the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics just 11 months away High Cascade Snowboard Camp (HCSC) is pleased to announce its partnership with U.S. Snowboarding, the Chinese National Snowboard Team, and Timberline Resort this summer to provide a 22' Olympic-sized Super Pipe and Slopestyle training venue this summer.
Constructed by Pat Malendoski, builder of the 2002 Salt Lake Olympic half-pipe and HCSC's parks and pipes since 1997, the Super Pipe will be an excact replica of the upcoming Olympic half-pipe at Sochi. HCSC's Slopestyle venue will feature perfectly maintained jumps, rails, and a dedicated BagJump where riders like Mark McMorris and Shaun White can perfect the newest trick anticipated to be thrown in the 2014 Olympics: the triple-cork 1440.
"This summer at High Cascade really represents the beginning of the run up to the 2014 Olympics," said Kevin English, HCSC's Executive Director and Co-Owner. "The best part is that our campers get to watch, ride with, and learn from the world's best snowboarders as they prepare for arguably the biggest snowboard event in the world. I think it's very cool that HCSC can provide our campers with the opportunity to follow the path to Sochi first-hand."
U.S. Snowboarding pro riders at High Cascade will include 2010 Olympic Medalist and HCSC Signature Session™ rider Scotty Lago along with Louie Vito, Luke Mitrani, Greg Bretz, Matt Ladley, Benji Farrow, Gretchen Bleiler, Kelly Clark, Elena Hight, Ellery Holllingsworth, Hannah Teter and Maddy Schaffrick. "Riding at Mt. Hood is a tradition for US Snowboarders all the way from the beginning," said Mike Jankowski, US Snowboarding Head Coach. "Anything can happen up there when everyone is pushing each other and having fun doing it." HCSC's park and pipe will be open for all HCSC campers with U.S. Snowboarding's Head Coach Mike Jankowski and Chinese National Snowboard Team Halfpipe Head Coach and former HCSC coach Chris Clark on hand during select summer camp sessions.
Graced with snowfalls reaching 500" annually, High Cascade Snowboard Camp on Mt. Hood, Oregon has been center stage for summer snowboarding and world-class professional snowboarders for the past 23 years. The venue is so exceptional that international Olympic snowboard hopefulls travel annually to Mt. Hood for High Cascade's immaculate features. "HCSC takes great pride in not only getting a top notch half-pipe up as early as possible to use, but the cat drivers and diggers do an amazing job keeping it in the best condition possible day in and day out," said Chris Clark, Halfpipe Head Coach for the Chinese National Snowboard Team. "Outside of the on-snow training, HCSC is also a great place to go and hang out with people with the same passion as our riders and helps remind us that snowboarding is supposed to be fun first, and the progression comes second. There is no other place I would rather be in June and July in preparation for the upcoming season."
