Introducing TTM Technologies (NASDAQ:TTMI), The Stock That Zoomed 114% In The Last Five Years

Simply Wall St

When you buy a stock there is always a possibility that it could drop 100%. But when you pick a company that is really flourishing, you can make more than 100%. One great example is TTM Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ:TTMI) which saw its share price drive 114% higher over five years. It's also good to see the share price up 27% over the last quarter. But this could be related to the strong market, which is up 12% in the last three months.

There is no denying that markets are sometimes efficient, but prices do not always reflect underlying business performance. By comparing earnings per share (EPS) and share price changes over time, we can get a feel for how investor attitudes to a company have morphed over time.

Over half a decade, TTM Technologies managed to grow its earnings per share at 35% a year. The EPS growth is more impressive than the yearly share price gain of 16% over the same period. Therefore, it seems the market has become relatively pessimistic about the company.

You can see how EPS has changed over time in the image below (click on the chart to see the exact values).

It's probably worth noting that the CEO is paid less than the median at similar sized companies. It's always worth keeping an eye on CEO pay, but a more important question is whether the company will grow earnings throughout the years. A Different Perspective

It's nice to see that TTM Technologies shareholders have received a total shareholder return of 43% over the last year. Since the one-year TSR is better than the five-year TSR (the latter coming in at 16% per year), it would seem that the stock's performance has improved in recent times. Someone with an optimistic perspective could view the recent improvement in TSR as indicating that the business itself is getting better with time. It's always interesting to track share price performance over the longer term. But to understand TTM Technologies better, we need to consider many other factors. Consider for instance, the ever-present spectre of investment risk. We've identified 3 warning signs with TTM Technologies (at least 1 which doesn't sit too well with us) , and understanding them should be part of your investment process.
