Irish Journalist Posts Trump’s Video, Calls It Bizarre Moment

An Irish Journalist, Caitriona Perry, posted a video on her Twitter account Tuesday in which President Donald Trump can be seen complimenting her smile while talking to Irish Prime Minister Leo Varadkar over phone. As Perry described it as ‘bizarre moment’, Twitterati slammed Trump for his behavior.

While talking over the phone, Trump called Perry to his desk, asked her name and said: “She has a nice smile on her face." The 71-year-old president further added, "So I bet she treats you well."

Perry is the U.S. bureau chief of RTE News agency of Ireland. She was in the White House to report on the President’s phone call to congratulate Varadkar for becoming the new prime minister.

RTE news website described the meeting as “Trump call! RTE’s Caitriona has Presidential moment” and wrote “Correspondent Caitriona Perry did her bit for the special relationship in the Oval Office on Tuesday when US President Donald Trump introduced her to new Taoiseach Leo Varadkar."

"One minute we were outside the window and the next minute I'm meeting the President of The United States," Perry was quoted as saying in the article. "Usually we would shoot from outside the window of the White House and that's what we were expecting today but instead we were invited inside to witness the President's call to the Taoiseach,” the website quoted Perry.

Twitter users, however, did not seem to like Trump’s gesture. Perry's tweet was retweeted more than 7,000 times and more than 12,000 Twitter users liked it. Most people criticized the president’s actions in the comments.

Replying to the tweets, a Twitter user Christine Canning offered apology for the president's behavior.

Many other Twitter users too apologized for President’s behavior.

This is not the first time Trump has invited criticism for his comments on women. He was widely bashed during the presidential election campaign in 2016 over allegations about his attitude towards women. In a lewd clip leaked to the media, he was heard using objectionable words.

During his conversation with the Irish prime minister, Trump discussed various issues about climate change and trade. However, a visit Trump to Ireland was not discussed, but both men agreed that the next time they would see each other would be in the White House next March, BBC reported.
