You may recognize Issa Rae from her popular web series, Awkward Black Girl, or her hit HBO series, Insecure. Well, many fans of the actress and comedian will be ecstatic to know that she is now one of the newest faces of a major beauty brand, CoverGirl.

Rae announced the news on Instagram Tuesday with a gorgeous shot of herself and an inspiring caption that reads, “I remember being an awkward black girl in high school, reading the pages of my favorite magazines, casually flipping through @COVERGIRL ads, singing their slogan in my head. Never EVER in my life did I imagine I’d be one. I am SO honored and SO excited for what’s to come.”

Following the news, social media erupted with an immediate outpouring of excitement with people leaving love-filled comments like “love to see you rising” and “Push through Queen!” CoverGirl followed up with its own IG post that was filled with just as much heartwarming enthusiasm.

Regarding the new partnership, the beauty brand shared in a statement: “With her characteristic wit and charm, unique observations on life and culture, and outspoken but relatable nature, Issa truly embodies the CoverGirl spirit of inclusive self-expression, inspiring people to embrace what makes them unique and confidently represent that to the world.”

Rae also shared her sentiments in an official statement: “My character is ever-evolving, and makeup is a tool to help transform my persona — whether for a role I play in content that I produce, or the different roles I take on in my life.” She continued: “Becoming a CoverGirl means a lot because the brand recognizes just how important it is for people to embrace their individuality and express themselves in unique and diverse ways. This has been a major part of my personal journey, and a message that I want to share with others.”

The 32-year-old already embodied “black girl magic” and now she is repping the CoverGirl spirit too.
