The Nashville, Tennessee-based company said it had a loss of 4 cents per share.

The casual dining restaurants operator posted revenue of $56.7 million in the period.

J. Alexander's expects full-year earnings to be 48 cents to 51 cents per share, with revenue in the range of $243.5 million to $244.5 million.

J. Alexander's shares have increased 16 percent since the beginning of the year. In the final minutes of trading on Wednesday, shares hit $11.25, a rise of 19 percent in the last 12 months.
