J&J to end metal hip sales

Johnson & Johnson's (JNJ) DePuy Orthopaedics will discontinue both its Ultamet Metal-on-Metal Articulation and Complete Ceramic-on-Metal Acetabular replacement hips at the end of Aug. The systems were not widely used by doctors, and DePuy said it decided to end sales in order to focus on its other products. It said the decision was not due to safety concerns or effectiveness and noted that the devices aren't being recalled. Nevertheless, J&J has had some product recalls in recent years in its contact lenses, prescription pharmaceuticals and other medicines. Shares rose 0.7% to 88.09.
