James Brown bio pic expected to be filmed in Mississippi this fall by director of 'The Help'

JACKSON, Miss. (AP) -- Mississippi officials say Gov. Phil Bryant and director Tate Taylor will announce a movie project Monday in Jackson.

Though the governor's spokesman wouldn't release any information Friday, sources with knowledge about the project say it will be a feature film about the godfather of soul, James Brown.

The sources spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to release information.

Rolling Stone magazine reported in January that Taylor had been hired to direct a movie about Brown, who died in 2006.

Taylor directed "The Help," which was filmed in Mississippi. He is a Jackson native who now lives near Natchez.

The Natchez Democrat reported that Mayor Butch Brown recently said a movie could be filmed in the city this fall.
