Even amongst the most famous beauty boys and YouTube stars, James Charles stands alone. The viral makeup artist can beat any face to the gods, but he can also turn a look with his butt fully bared.

His wardrobe is packed with denim thongs, assless chaps, and see-through crop tops – wonderfully revealing items most people wouldn't dare wear in public.

So why is it that James always embraces the "sun's out buns out" mantra? In an interview with Seventeen, he gave the real reason why he goes for outfits that flaunt the booty – and it's not just for thot content.

According to James, he chooses his looks specifically to inspire his own self-confidence and gender identity, something he has struggled with all his life.

"Clothing I feel like for me is subjective – clothing has no gender obviously and for me it’s just all about feeling confident and feeling body confident, too," the YouTuber explained.

DAY 1 🌈

"I’m not the most confident in my body. I don’t know why, my identity is something that I’ve always struggled with. Like obviously I’m a boy in makeup – but I’ve always enjoyed very feminine things and I’ve tried to educate myself more about gender identity and societal stereotypes and stuff like that," he continued.

"So for me it’s always just about pushing new boundaries and making myself uncomfortable in ways where I can kind of like force myself to be more confident and to love who I am."

For James, less clothing leads to more confidence, so obviously he lists his famous white g-string outfit from Coachella 2019 as his all-time favorite look.

DAY 2 🍑 no razor bumps in sight

"By far my [favorite look was] day two look at Coachella with like the all-white assless chaps look. That was like my favorite look I’ve ever done. It was inspired by my favorite drag queen ever Pabllo Bitar ... So I just truly felt like I was taking over Coachella in that outfit and I felt so confident."
