From Town & Country

As the number of confirmed COVID-19 infections rises with every passing minute—cases in New York State alone have skyrocketed this week and now account for 7 percent of the global total—so have the desperate pleas from doctors who are running out of critical protective supplies like masks, gloves, and gowns (not to mention crucial items for patients, too, from hospital beds to ventilators). The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has ventured so far as to recommend they cover their faces with bandanas or scarves in lieu of a surgical mask.

Over the past few weeks, several corporations and brands have stepped up and offered to help. Ralph Lauren donated $10 million to relief efforts. LVMH, L'Oreal, and Estée Lauder are now producing hand sanitizer. Kering-owned brands Balenciaga and Saint Laurent are making masks, as are independent designers such as Christian Siriano, and Pyer Moss designer Kerby Jean-Raymond converted his New York office into a donation center to collect supplies for medical workers.

The jewelry world is getting on board, too.

The designer Ana Khouri has created a special edition ring encased in sapphires—"I chose blue sapphires as blue in many cultures is associated with hope, peace, and protection," she says—for which 100 percent of proceeds will go to Doctors Without Borders. The ring retails for $7,074 and can be purchased directly at anakhouri.com.

Meanwhile, the communications firms Danielle Gadi PR and IHPR have joined forces to support No Kid Hungry by enlisting jewelry designers to donate a portion of their online sales—between 10 and 30 percent—to the national child hunger organization. With the coronavirus pandemic forcing schools to close, millions of children in need have lost access to regular, healthy meals.

More than 100 jewelers (and counting), including T&C favorites Irene Neuwirth, Brent Neale, Anita Ko, and Retrouvai, have signed on to the cause.
