Joel Embiid is so excited about the 76ers that he cursed on live TV

Philadelphia 76ers big man Joel Embiid couldn’t contain his excitement Wednesday night as the Sixers got their first home win of the season in a 119-109 victory over the Atlanta Hawks. Even more impressive, Embiid played 30 minutes for the first time in his injury-plagued career.

Add a career-high six assists, and it led to Embiid to have a cheerful post-game live TV interview with NBC Sports Philly’s Molly Sullivan. But just as Embiid was in the middle of raving about fellow teammate Ben Simmons’ skills, the smooth conversation was colorfully cut off:

“He’s got great vision, obviously he is getting better by every game so I love having him as a point guard,” Embiid said. “He’s setting me up pretty well so I think we got … oh yeah!! [bleep, bleep, bleep].”

The cursing-filled interruption was provoked by an also-giddy Simmons, who appeared to take a playful jab at his teammate during the interview, resulting in Embiid’s colorful reaction.

But in typical Embiid fashion, he went right along with the interview, not missing a beat as he continued to say: “We are going to keep on growing together and hopefully in the future we can build a dynasty.”

The Sixers are 4-4 after their win over the Hawks. Dynasty talk miiiight be a tad too early, but hey, Embiid played a career-high number of minutes so he has a right to be a bit excited.

On the night, Embiid scored 21 points had 12 rebounds, six assists, three blocks and three steals in a career-high 30 minutes. Embiid’s minutes had been limited to start the season as he is working his way back from injury.

“It was great I wish I could have played 40 … but I am close and I am getting there,” Embiid told Sullivan about his playing time. “And I think in the next two or three weeks it is going to keep on going up and hopefully going to keep helping the team win some games.”

Simmons, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2016 draft, finished with 19 points, 13 rebounds, nine assists and two steals as the Sixers got their third-straight win.
