John Batten to succeed father as Twin Disk CEO

NEW YORK (AP) -- Twin Disc Inc., which makes power transmission equipment, said Tuesday that its board has elected John H. Batten to succeed his father Michael as the company's chief executive officer. Michael Batten will remain as chairman.

John Batten, 47, will become CEO on Nov. 1, the company said. He is currently chief operating officer and began working at the Racine, Wis., company in 1996 as an application engineer.

Michael E. Batten, 73, will retire at the end of the year as an employee but stay on as non-executive chairman. He joined Twin Disc in 1970 and has been CEO since 1983.

The company designs and makes power transmission equipment for boats, tractors and trucks.

Its shares rose 5 cents to $21.69 in afternoon trading Tuesday.
