John Stamos is on his way to having a full house!
The 54-year-old actor is having his first baby with fiancé Caitlin McHugh, PEOPLE reveals.
“The look on John’s face when I told him we were pregnant was priceless,” McHugh,31, told PEOPLE. “It was the look of a man who has wanted a family of his own but wasn't sure it was going to happen for him. Now it is!”
The two got engaged at Disneyland in October, the perfect proposal for Disney super fan McHugh.
“The [pregnancy] happened. Then I said, I better have a ring on her finger because it’s the right thing to do, and I wanted to marry her anyway,” Stamos told PEOPLE. “So I called her parents to ask, and it was like, ‘You better!’”
The two are more than excited to be having their first child together. Stamos has wanted to be a dad for quite some time. Sources close to Stamos revealed to Hollywood Life that he is ready for this new change.
“John is eager to finally have a family after being inspired by George Clooney’s late-life happiness and fatherhood,” the source shared. “As John has matured, his priorities and perspectives on life have changed too. He is finally ready to settle down, become a father and enter the next phase of his life.”
Over the years he’s had any people joke about how he isn't a father yet.
“People would say, ‘You should have a child,’” he told the publication. “I was like, ‘That ship has sailed.’”
But the ship never, in fact, set sail and now he can finally be the dad he’s always wanted to be.
The couple had talked about having a baby during their two-year relationship and McHugh mentioned they should have their first child before they got married. Stamos told PEOPLE he remembers asking McHugh why and she replied with, “Because you’re old!”
Stamos and McHugh are holding back on letting the world know baby #1’s gender.
The actor’s fiancée has no doubt the Full House actor will make a great dad.
“I greatly admire his originality, creativity, ambition, work ethic and humor — all qualities I’m sure he’ll pass down to his child,” McHugh told PEOPLE. “He’s always been wonderful with kids, and I’m sure he will be an amazing father.”
Stamos feels the same way.
“I’ll be a fun dad. I’ve been practicing for a long time,” Stamos said. “I’ve done every schtick you can do with a baby on TV … all the bits and jokes and diaper gags. I’ll probably just do all that stuff.”
The newly engaged couple is also planning to add to their family later on. McHugh reportedly wants to have more kids after this one. Hopefully, the two will have a Full House soon!
