Josh Norman, Demario Davis go on shopping spree for migrant children
Shoppers wandering a San Antonio, Texas Walmart at 3 a.m. were likely in various stages of wakefulness. But those who were lucid – and NFL fans – likely noticed two of the league’s defensive players filling their carts with dozens of items.
Washington cornerback Josh Norman and Saints linebacker Demario Davis partnered with the Texas branch of the Refugee and Immigrant Center for Education and Legal Services (RAICES) to get and fill backpacks for children released from detention centers.
‘We’re here to save the world’
Norman and Davis have both been outspoken when it comes to issues of justice and equality, both here and abroad, and happily chronicled their shopping spree on social media.
“We’re here to save the world!,” Davis exclaimed as Norman recorded them in Walmart.
After filling an SUV to the brim with backpacks, the two met with children who had been released from a detention center after President Donald Trump’s zero-tolerance policy led to over 2,000 children being taken from the parents.
They also brought 20 boxes of pizza when they met with children and families.
“I don’t care how much the world hates, I will always choose love,” Davis tweeted.

Marcell Dareus gives to school children in Haiti
Norman and Davis aren’t the only ones doing good deeds recently; on Tuesday, Texans receiver DeAndre Hopkins invited young athletes in Houston to workout with him in a city park, and Jacksonville defensive lineman Marcell Dareus was in Haiti, where a schoolhouse will be named after him.
Dareus, whose late father was born and raised on the impoverished island, last year donated $25,000 to Hope for Haiti and this year donated $125,000 through his eponymous foundation.
The money will be used to build a three-classroom schoolhouse as well as help fund teachers’ salaries and school supplies.
“It is one thing to give money to something and hope for the best; it is quite something else to witness your efforts and see the gratitude and thankfulness of not just the children, but the whole community, for doing what you’re doing,” Dareus said, via jacksonville.com.
“To receive their blessings and hear their words of appreciation directly was something I could have never imagined several years ago. Their gratitude and happiness was overwhelming and showed me that what I am doing is going to have a tremendous impact on their lives.”
