Julia Roberts Reacts to College Admissions Scandal in a Vulnerable Way

The college cheating scam allegedly involving celebrities Felicity Huffman and Lori Loughlin has garnered many responses from other famous individuals. Now, Julia Roberts is reacting to the college admissions scandal. While recently chatting with ITV, the Oscar-winning actress gave an open and honest answer to the situation, all while shining a light on her own parenting of her three children, 14-year-old twins Hazel and Phinnaeus and 11-year-old son Henry, with husband Danny Moder.

“That to me is so sad, because I feel, [as] an outsider, that it says a little bit, ‘I don’t have enough faith in you,'” she told ITV about the scandal, which has found Huffman and Loughlin among more than 40 other individuals indicted for allegedly participating in a bribery scam aimed at getting their children into elite universities.

According to multiple reports, the former Hallmark star (the network cut all ties with Loughlin following the scandal) and her husband, Mossimo Giannulli, allegedly paid bribes totaling $500,000 to have two of their daughters dubbed as recruits to the University of Southern California crew team to help with their admissions into the university, even though they did not participate in the sport. As for Huffman, she and her husband, William H. Macy, allegedly paid $15,000 to have their oldest daughter’s SAT scores doctored at a “controlled” testing center to ensure her admission to a university.

For Roberts, she and Moder work really hard at ensuring their children have not just normal lives, but that they also remain as grounded as possible, especially since they live privileged lives compared to many others and have parents who are in the spotlight.

“My husband and I are very aligned on that front, I think that we live a very normal experience with our children,” she said about her parenting efforts with Moder. “Obviously we have advantages that we didn’t have as children. But I think that’s the unique part of it, coming from the childhood that I have. You do need to know how to make your bed and do your laundry and make one meal. These are important life skills.” The Ben Is Back actress added about raising children, “They have to run their own race. They have to have their own experience.”

Roberts made it clear how important it is to have “faith” in your children. She told ITV, “I feel that in [Ben Is Back], this mother is trying to say, ‘I have so much faith in you, I have both our faiths until you can find the faith in yourself again.'”

At this time, neither Huffman, Loughlin, or Giannulli have officially commented on the allegations.
