Julia Roberts is known first and foremost for the megawatt smile she’s flashed regularly since she arrived in Hollywood in the late ’80s. (Mystic Pizza forever!) She reportedly even insured her smile for a hefty sum. As she turns 50 on Oct. 28, here’s a closer look at some things that can always make Roberts crack her signature facial expression.
The scene in Pretty Woman when Richard Gere‘s Edward surprises Vivian with a necklace in a box that he snaps shut when she reaches out to touch it seems to have delighted the actress as much as it did the audience. When you think about it, it makes sense that Roberts is close friends with one of Hollywood’s most notorious pranksters…
Have you ever seen Roberts not having the time of her life when Clooney, who worked with her on Ocean’s Eleven, Ocean’s Twelve, and Money Monster, is around?
Winning an Oscar
Roberts has taken the stage to accept an Academy Award only once — in 2001, when she won for Erin Brockovich. But anyone could see how grateful she was to be recognized.
Roberts usually isn’t the actress named as having the edgiest or the chicest style on a red carpet (she loves menswear), but she always looks like she’s having so much fun! That’s always a fabulous look.
Talk about a power couple! Roberts is always happy to run into the media mogul, who happens to be a close pal.
Her husband, Danny Moder
For 15 years her cinematographer hubby, Danny Moder, has been keeping Roberts happy. She’s called him the “safest place in the world” for her.
Doing good works
Roberts ran wild with adventurer Bear Grylls to mark Red Nose Day 2017. Their mission was to travel to Kenya to deliver vaccines over treacherous terrain in a limited period.
Taking photos of her kids
Like a lot of moms, Roberts takes pleasure in seeing her three kids with Moder — 12-year-old twins Hazel and Phinnaeus and 10-year-old Henry — happy. She might look as if she’s snapping selfies, but the Notting Hill star was actually taking photos of her kids as they played on the field following a pro soccer match in England.
Another thing that made Roberts smile? A recent visit to The Late Late Show With James Corden in which she acted out scenes from her most famous movies in less than 10 minutes.
