Julia Stiles and Husband Preston Cook Welcome Son Strummer Newcomb

Julia Stiles Welcomes Son Strummer Newcomb·People

Julia Stiles is a mama!

The Rivieraactress welcomed her first child, son Strummer Newcomb Cook, with husband Preston J. Cook on Friday, Oct. 20, she announced Tuesday on Instagram.

“Thanks and ever thanks to the extraordinary Doctors, Nurses and staff at Mount Sinai for helping bring this utter joy into our lives. ??? “Hello, World!” the new mom captioned a sweet shot of her holding her newborn’s hand.

Strummer’s arrival comes weeks after Stiles, 36, and Cook tied the knot over Labor Day weekend on a Seattle beach, in what the star jokingly described on Instagram as a “shotgun wedding.”

The couple were engaged on Christmas Eve 2015 at a private residence in Isla Grande, Colombia, after meeting on the set of Stiles’ film Go with Me, where Cook worked as a camera assistant. Stiles’ rep confirmed exclusively to PEOPLE in June that Cook and the 10 Things I Hate About Youstar were expecting.

Since the news broke, the notably private actress has posted just a few cute bump shots to social media — and has given a few snippets of detail about her baby-to-be ahead of the birth.

“Both sets of grandparents don’t like the name that we came up with,” she told SiriusXM’s Wake Up with Taylorin September. “But they’re gonna get over it.”

The same week as her SiriusXM interview, the star appeared on Live with Kelly & Ryan, where she dished on her (lack of a) birth plan.

“I’m worried [if I have a birth plan] that the doctors are gonna be sort of offended by that. Is that weird? I mean, I should have a birth plan and I will — and I imagine how I would like it to go. I’m probably in fantasy land about that,” she admitted. “I should be more demanding, probably.”

Stiles hasn’t been nesting much, either, until recently. “I’m so nomadic that I try to nest but then find myself getting on airplanes,” she says. “But now I’m settling down.”
