Knocksville Baseball + Softball Training Facility is scheduled to host a meet-and-greet event with Texas Rangers third baseman Josh Jung beginning at 5 p.m. Friday. The Lubbock facility is located at 11717 Indiana Ave.

The event will include a VIP session from 5 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. and then be open to the public. Knocksville said those who attend "will be able to shake hands and take a picture with Josh Jung," but no autographs will be given. At 6:30 p.m., three contestants and Jung will take part in a five-swing home-run derby.

Also on the schedule are a raffle featuring a Jung jersey, facility tours and games, snacks and drinks and a $1 membership special at Knocksville, a 20,000-square-foot baseball and softball training facility.

Jung, the former Texas Tech all-American, made his Major League debut this past season, batting .204 with five home runs and 14 runs batted in in 26 games for the Rangers.

More information is available at knocknation.com/memberships and on the Knocksville LBK Facebook page.

Tech football

Texas Tech defensive end Tyree Wilson was named "best defensive lineman" and is among four Red Raiders honored on the Dave Campbell's Texas Football all-Texas college team released Thursday.

Wilson and Tech punter Austin McNamara were first-team honorees. Tech linebacker Krishon Merriweather and safety Marquis Waters made the second team.

Wilson was credited with 61 tackles, including 14 tackles for loss with seven sacks. He played in 10 games before he suffered a broken foot that ended his season. He subsequently announced he will give up his final year of eligibility and train for the NFL draft.

McNamara's 44.4-yard punt average ranks fourth in the Big 12.

Merriweather is third in the Big 12 in tackles with 104 as well as having five tackles behind the line, including two sacks. Waters has 55 tackles, including 12 1/2 tackles for loss, and seven quarterback hurries. Waters is the FBS leader in tackles for loss among defensive backs.

Merriweather and Waters are out of eligibility at the end of this season. McNamara, also a senior, has the option to return in 2023 on the Covid-bonus year if he chooses.

Tech (7-5) plays Mississippi (8-4) at 8 p.m. Dec. 28 at the Texas Bowl in Houston.
