Kanye West air selling for $60,000: Today in weird business news

It’s been a weird day for business news. People are selling air, giving away $900,000 inns and Derek Zoolander is back. Read on for more…

Kanye West’s hot air

It started with one eBay (EBAY) listing last Sunday for ‘Kanye West Yeezus Tour Air’ listed for $5. The plastic zip lock bag, which was filled with air presumably from a Kanye West concert quickly popped in price. More than 90 people bid on the item bringing the Yeezus-oxygen to $60,000. Copycats began popping up, filling eBay with Kanye-breathed air. Some sellers are even including their ticket stubs with the plastic bags to prove the air’s authenticity.

Kanye’s wife, Kim Kardashian, weighed in on the new crop of sales on Twitter:

The Yeezus tour began in October of 2013 and ended a year later. There are currently at least 25 separate listings for the product on the bidding website.

An Inn is worth 200 words

Maine Inn-keeper Janice Sage is giving away her 210-year-old, ten room inn and restaurant to whoever can write the best 200-word essay describing why they want it. Sage won the inn the same way 22 years ago and is ready to pass on the torch.

The inn is worth an estimated $900,000, but Sage plans on charging $125 per entry. She expects to receive at least 7,500, which will leave her with almost $1 million.

Once the entries are received Sage will read through them all and pick the top 20, those will be read by two locals who will determine the winner. The inn and all of its furniture plus $20,000 will be awarded to the winning essayist. They’re required to keep the inn functioning for at least one year and to keep the house white and the shutters dark green. Interested? Enter here.

The return of “Blue Steel”

Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson were spotted in Paris this Tuesday walking the runway for fashion designer Valentino. The two portrayed their “Zoolander” male-model characters Derek Zoolander and Hansel in order to announce that Zoolander 2 will be released in February of 2016.

The marketing move was a huge success as video and images of the two strutting their stuff quickly made the rounds with the established press and on social media.

The first “Zoolander” is a fan favorite that netted about $60 million worldwide. Rumors of “Zoolander 2” have been around since 2010. Specifics about the film, which will be produced by Paramount, are scarce. In a 2010 interview Stiller told MTV that, “In the fashion world, if you go away for a year, it’s changed — it just happens so quickly. I think the idea in the beginning of the movie is that it's 10 years later, and Derek and Hansel are literally forgotten. Nobody remembers who they are, so they have to reinvent themselves."
