It’s official: Karl Lagerfeld has switched up his world-renowned aesthetic for the first time in two decades.

The mastermind at the helm of Chanel and Fendi may be famous for his penchant for motorcycle-inspired gloves, a peppered white ponytail, and tinted sunnies, but the fashion mogul surprised the front row with a new accessory earlier this week.

Yes, Lagerfeld debuted a (surprisingly) untamed beard at the Dior Homme Fall/Winter 2018 show as he grabbed a seat beside the likes of Robert Pattinson and Bella Hadid.

And it was close friend and journalist Suzy Menkes who alerted the fashion world to his transformation as she joked: “So KARL has an exciting new facial accessory. But TRAGICALLY I cannot copy it…”

But his look has divided the internet, as fashion followers took to Twitter to debate his latest accessory:

One thing is for certain. Boys, the beard is back and more on trend than ever before.
