Kate Beckinsale Puts David Spade in His Place for His Totally Unnecessary Comment

When it comes to dating, it seems like there’s always a double standard to combat, especially when age differences are involved. Why does society deem it acceptable for men to date women half their age, but the reverse is seen as controversial? Kate Beckinsale, at least, is done with comments about her dating choices. Beckinsale clapped back at an unnecessary comment from David Spade after he took to her Instagram to call out her current relationship with Saturday Night Live star Pete Davidson and she totally put him in his place.

On a video of Beckinsale playing with a baby cheetah while filming The Widow, Spade commented, “You like them young! (Now don’t fight back and roast me just quietly stew and take the hit.)” As noted by Us Weekly, this comment was clearly aimed at Beckinsale’s relationship with Davidson, which has seen plenty of criticism because of their 20-year age difference. Spade himself has a history of dating younger women, including Glee‘s Naya Rivera, who is 22 years his junior.

“@Davidspade never gonna happen grandpa,” Beckinsale wrote back.

Beckinsale doesn’t seem too bothered by Spade’s criticism of her relationship, which is reportedly going well. According to Entertainment Tonight, she and Davidson went out to dinner with her mother and step-father on Wednesday in Malibu, which is a big step for any relationship. Beckinsale has also clapped back at other Instagram users who comment on her relationship, usually in a flippant way.

Meanwhile, Davidson remarked on the “crazy fascination with our age difference” in a “Weekend Update” skit on the March 9 episode of SNL.

“If you have questions about a relationship with a big age difference,” he joked, “Just ask Leonardo DiCaprio, Jason Statham, Michael Douglas, Richard Gere, Jeff Goldblum, Scott Disick, Dane Cook, Derek Jeter, Bruce Willis, Harrison Ford, Tommy Lee, Alec Baldwin, Sean Penn, whoever the President of France is, Mel Gibson, Billy Joel, Mick Jagger, Sylvester Stallone, Eddie Murphy, Kelsey Grammar, Larry King, Larry King, Larry King… Rod Stewart and Donald Trump.”

As Davidson noted, his age difference with Beckinsale doesn’t bother them, but it’s telling that it bothers people like Spade.
