Following a traumatic day on the streets of London, Kate Middleton turned up an hour late to the Royalty Variety Performance tonight (November 24) due to a suspected attack in the capital.

Despite the delay, the Duchess of Cambridge wowed the crowds in a sparkling dress at the London Palladium.

After Oxford Circus station, Bond Street and Tottenham Court Road were evacuated over reports of gunshots, Kate still managed to make it to the event – albeit a little tardy.

There were fears that the day's events would cause Kate and husband William to miss the Royal Variety Performance, but the Palace assured us that both would make it to the show.

"The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge will still attend this evening's Royal Variety Performance," a spokesperson promised. "Their arrival will be delayed, but we hope they will be able to arrive in time for the start of the performance."

Clearly apologetic for her lateness, the Duchess still found time to shake hands ahead of the show's start.

In a case of "better late than never", a stunning Kate made it down the red carpet in a floor-length Jenny Packham gown.

William looked equally dashing in his black tuxedo, but all eyes were undoubtedly on his glowing wife.

Showing off the baby bump of her third child, Kate and William soon took their seats to enjoy an evening of fun and frivolity with acts like Tokio Myers and The Killers.

Hosted by TV's Miranda Hart, it's no surprise that Kate and Will both looked able to put a stressful day behind them.

Running since 1912, the 2017 Royal Variety Performance will be aired on ITV next month.
