CHICAGO (AP) _ Kemper Corp. (KMPR) on Tuesday reported fourth-quarter net income of $36.9 million.
On a per-share basis, the Chicago-based company said it had net income of 71 cents. Earnings, adjusted for pretax gains and investment gains, were 45 cents per share.
The results surpassed Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of three analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of 23 cents per share.
The insurance holding company posted revenue of $697.3 million in the period.
For the year, the company reported profit of $120.9 million, or $2.33 per share. Revenue was reported as $2.72 billion.
Kemper shares have declined 16 percent since the beginning of the year. In the final minutes of trading on Tuesday, shares hit $57.55, a rise of 29 percent in the last 12 months.
