LOUISVILLE – Sometimes, you have to wait over a century for a good bottle of bourbon.

Kentucky Peerless Distilling Company announced Tuesday morning that it will be releasing its first bourbon in 102 years to the public on June 22. The bourbon will be released in limited quantities.

Started in 1889 by current CEO Corky Taylor's great-grandfather, Henry Karver, the Peerless brand was once the state's second-largest bourbon distillery, producing about 200 barrels of rye whiskey and bourbon per day until 1917, when Karver closed the facility at the onset of World War I, the Courier Journal previously reported. The Taylor family resurrected the brand in 2015 with the opening of a new distiller in downtown Louisville.

Taylor told the Courier Journal that Kentucky Peerless Distilling Company chose June 22 as the release date to honor the birthday of his father, Roy Taylor Jr.

"As a team, we have been waiting four years and we're ecstatic to release the first Peerless Bourbon in 102 years," he said.

The Taylor family began barreling in March of 2015. According to a press release, the company used "sweet mash instead of sour, non-chilled filtration, barreling product at 107 proof and bottling it as barrel strength whiskey."

Peerless Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey can be both tasted and purchased after its release on June 22 at the company's distillery in downtown Louisville and select accounts in Kentucky.

The official number of bottles that will be sold is to be determined, according to a Kentucky Peerless Distilling Company spokesperson. The suggested retail price will be $69 to $79.
