Kevin Spacey recited The Boxer by Italian poet Gabriele Tinti to around 150 museum visitors at Rome’s National Roman Museum on Friday afternoon.

The Boxer is about a beaten pugilist that is left at the side of the ring.

It consists of lines such as, “The more you’re wounded the greater you are,” “"They used me for their entertainment, fed on shoddy stuff," and, “I shook the country, made the arenas vibrate, tore my opponents to shreds. I lit up the darkness, collected insults, compelled applause. Not everyone knew how to do this. None of you. On the other hand life is not frightening for those who have never taken a risk.”

Tinti took to Twitter to celebrate the performance, writing, “What a brilliant performance of Kevin Spacey. The smile on the face of the 150 attendants brightened up the cloudy day in Rome.”

According to Variety, Spacey’s publicity team reached out to various media outlets to inform them of the poetry recital, and also promised particular websites and publications a chance to do one on one interviews with the Oscar winning star of American Beauty and The Usual Suspects. However those never actually materialised.

Over a dozen people have accused Kevin Spacey of sexual assault. Last month prosecutors in Nantucket dropped a case against Spacey after he was accused of sexually assaulting an 18-year-old. Spacey allegedly groped the busboy, who worked at the Club Car restaurant on the island, back in the summer of 2016.

Star Trek: Discovery actor Anthony Rapp’s claim that Spacey molested him after a party when he was just 14 years-old provoked numerous other individuals to come forward with their own accusations of sexual assault and inappropriate behaviour against him, too.
