‘The kind of content I’m here for’: Ex-presidential candidate sings a little Phantom of the Opera

On Friday night, while the rest of us were out celebrating the start of our weekend, possibly over drinks with family and friends, former Singapore presidential candidate Tan Kin Lian decided to mysteriously retreat to his man cave and pour his heart out in a song, specifically Phantom of the Opera’s Music of the Night.

It left us with a few major questions: Why did he do it? Why that song? Why subject the world to his warbly strains? We simply don’t know. It’s a mystery as big as the phantom himself.

Just kidding. Tan does this kind of thing all the time. This is, after all, the man who once doxed himself on Facebook by exposing his personal details and who had threatened not to stand in the coming general elections because people weren’t interested in attending his event.

The entire haunting serenade by the half-masked 71-year-old was captured by the man himself as he sat in front of what we presume is his home computer.

True to the ballad, the nearly five-minute performance by Tan takes you on “a journey to a strange new world.”

Tan, who ran for the presidency in 2011, began his performance with his mask already on and the lights switched off.

Without any formal introduction or explanation as to what was about to happen, Tan then brought the microphone to his lips and graced us with his, um … not-quite-Broadway-ready vocals.

At the end of the act, Singapore’s very own phantom simply turns on the lights and ends the recording, leaving us to wonder what in the hell we had just witnessed.

While Tan’s video offered no explanation at the end, he did, however, engage with people in the comments section.

Till the next Facebook antic by Tan.
