KLA Tencor 3rd quarter earnings fall 19 percent

NEW YORK (AP) -- KLA-Tencor Corp., which makes equipment for manufacturing semiconductors, said Thursday that its fiscal third-quarter profits fell 19 percent.

Net income for the three-month period ending March 31, 2013 dropped to $166 million, or 98 cents a share, from $205 million, or $1.21, a year ago. Sales slipped 13 percent to $729 million.

Adjusting to exclude one-time items, KLA said it earned $1.01 a share in the latest quarter.

Analysts expected adjusted earnings of 86 cents per share on sales of $726 million, according to FactSet.

Based in Milpitas, Calif., KLA-Tencor serves customers in the semiconductor, data storage, LED and other nanoelecronics industries.

The company's stock fell $2.77, or 5 percent, to $53.13 in after-hours trading following the release of the earnings report.
