Kroger to pay $100 to workers who get COVID-19 vaccination

Feb 5 (Reuters) - Supermarket chain Kroger Co said onFriday it would give $100 to workers who get a COVID-19vaccination, joining a growing list of U.S. retailersincentivizing employees to get inoculated against the novelcoronavirus as soon as possible.

Kroger, which also operates Ralphs and Harris Teeter amongother banners across 35 states, has hired over 100,000 newworkers to cater to a surge in demand amid coronaviruslockdowns.

The company said it would also invest an additional $50million in rewards for associates, including a $100 store creditand 1,000 fuel points for hourly staff.

Other retailers who have taken similar action to encouragetheir U.S. employees to get a vaccination include Dollar General, German supermarket chain Aldi, Instacart and TraderJoe's.

According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control andPrevention, people over 75 and essential workers are scheduledto receive the vaccine in a later phase, after healthcareworkers and nursing home residents.(Reporting by Nivedita Balu in Bengaluru; Editing byRamakrishnan M.)
