FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) -- Kentucky Gov. Steve Beshear has appointed a union leader to take over as his labor secretary effective May 15.
Beshear announced his decision Friday to put Kentucky State Building & Construction Trades Council director Larry Roberts in charge of the Labor Cabinet.
Beshear said Roberts previously worked for the Labor Cabinet as director of the Division of Employment Standards, Apprenticeship and Training. He once also served as a member of the Governor's Task Force on Unemployment Insurance.
Beshear also accepted the resignation of Deputy Labor Secretary Mark S. Brown, who had been serving as acting secretary since December 2010.
