Kyrie Irving doesn't 'think of Christmas as a holiday'
Boston Celtics point guard Kyrie Irving doesn’t appear honored by playing in a coveted NBA Christmas day time slot.
And he doesn’t seem to have much patience for questions about the holiday coming off a tough loss to the New York Knicks, telling a reporter “I don’t necessarily think of Christmas as a holiday.”

He does, however, appear to enjoy answering questions about Christmas while dressed like Bob Cratchit.
The point here, though, is that this was a benign postgame question and a harmless response from Irving.
Irving’s in-no-way controversial answer is sure to draw the ire of some, despite the possibilities that he may have a difficult history with Christmas or, like many Americans, just doesn’t celebrate the holiday. Which is fine.
But it does hit on a pair of cultural flash points, ensuring this will be a bigger deal than it actually is:
America loves Christmas.
Basketball fans love bagging on the stuff Irving says.
Please, resist the urge to bury him here. Just because Christmas is sacred to you, doesn’t mean it has to be to Irving.
And, besides. It’s not like he said the earth is flat.
