Midday index, ETF option volumes

Total option volume has picked up at 6.4 million contracts so far with today's rally, as the usual indexes and ETFs lead the way, according to optionMONSTER data systems.

The SPDR S&P 500 Fund (:SPY) has 917,000 options traded, with 586,000 puts. Next up are the S&P 500 Index (:SPX) options at 488,000, with puts slightly outpacing puts.

The iShares Russell 2000 Fund (IWM) has seen 234,000 contracts turn over, led by 148,000 puts. The iShares Emerging Markets Fund (EEM) has 193,000 contracts changing hands, with a put/call ratio of almost 5 to 1.

The CBOE Volatility Index (:VIX) has 164,000 options traded, with calls outpacing puts by more than 2 to 1. Next up is the iPath S&P 500 VIX Short Term Futures Note (VXX) at 145,000 contracts, with 79,000 puts.

The PowerShares QQQ Trust (:QQQ) has 122,000 options traded, with 71,000 puts.
