BMW is shaking things up on the smaller end of its lineup. The German automaker has split off the 3 Series Coupe into the 4 Series, and the 3 Series will only soldier on as a sedan. Since that would make the 1 Series the only coupe to wear an odd-numbered badge, BMW has decided to axe the 1 Series and replace it with the 2 Series. Follow all that? Well, now that you’re caught up, here are some leaked photos of the 2 Series Coupe for your viewing pleasure.
Effectively the replacement for the 1 Series, the 2 Series is seen here as a coupe, but will eventually be joined by a 2 Series Convertible. For now, take in the design of this new compact coupe.
Thanks to these photos posted to 2addicts.com (a 2 Series fan forum), we know that this is an M135i. If this vehicle is anything like the late, great 1 Series M, it will be a hoot to drive. This particular vehicle is rumored to contain a turbocharged 3.0-liter straight-six, making 322 horsepower and 332 pound feet of torque, sent to the rear wheels through BMW’s performance dual clutch transmission. We REALLY hope that a manual option is available for such a fabulous package.
Official details and images will be released by BMW on Friday. It will go on sale in the spring of 2014 as a 2015 model.
