Learn to Manage True Wealth With Dean and Brock Bennion of Kimball Creek Partners

·6 min read

TACOMA, WA / ACCESSWIRE / September 10, 2021 / Kimball Creek Partners was founded on the core belief that true wealth is much more than money; it is the ability to live a life full of purpose and meaning. A fee-based independent wealth management firm, the company has built a reputation as a place that promotes good stewardship through financial management and looks at retirement planning as a path to living a meaningful and fulfilling life that is more than a dollar sign, rather it is a process of aligning a clients' financial assets with the values and goals that matter most to them and their families.

The firm was founded by Dean S. Bennion, CFP, and a partner in 2013. Dean has been in the wealth management industry since 1987 and has seen the economy and markets fluctuate dramatically, hitting historic highs and devastating lows. Last year his son Dr. Brock Bennion joined Kimball Creek, and now works alongside his father to continue the firm's mission of providing people a path to financial stability and stewardship. As they say, "Our family takes care of your family." Brock is currently the operations manager for Kimball Creek Partners and brings a Ph.D. and a scientific approach to financial stewardship.

For this father and son team, retirement planning goes beyond the important yet broad question of "Do I have enough money to retire?" They believe that retirement looks different for everyone and starts with really understanding people on a deeper level than what they have in their investment portfolio or in their bank account. They like to begin by understanding seven different areas of life:

  • Values

  • Goals

  • Relationships

  • Assets

  • Advisors

  • Process

  • Interests

This information is all part of decoding and breaking down what truly matters so that they can align a person's financial assets with the things that matter most to the individual and their family. The team then creates what they call a Total Client Profile, with the client as the center and all these other areas connected to them. This creates a detailed picture of who they are, where they want to go, and establishes a road map to get there.

Clients truly are like family and the team makes a concerted effort to meet clients where they feel most comfortable. Located in the historic Provident building in downtown Tacoma, the office feels more like a comfortable living room than a corporate boardroom. Even their approach to the office setting is different, their "second office" just so happens to be a boat. Kimball Creek Partners provides services in the areas of financial planning, portfolio management, retirement planning, estate, and legacy planning, education planning, and charitable giving and strategies.

Guiding clients through the different options for charitable gifts, and establishing giving goals, the team is able to offer solutions and options that seek to provide lifetime income, build a charitable plan transferring wealth, maximize tax benefits for given income and assets, all while seeking to reduce or avoid taxes and creating a legacy of giving by supporting causes that are meaningful to the clients and their families. These include options for:

  • Donor-Advised Fund

  • Private Foundations

  • Charitable Remainder Trust

  • Pooled Income Funds

  • Charitable Gift Annuities

While not all clients are going to be donating significant assets to charities, they all have the capacity to make a difference. For many clients, this ability to give back is a great joy. People who have built successful careers and businesses have enough for their families and want to give back to the next generation. "We believe that you are happier when you are a good steward of the things you have been given, and we find that when people work hard and reach a certain amount of wealth, it gets complicated, and people have things that matter more to them than making more money, and we help simplify that for them," says Dean Bennion.

Dean started out in wealth management as an investment advisor for the brokerage arm of the Bank of Nova Scotia. He credits his interest in the industry to his father, who took him on a trip when he was 12 years old to see the Commodities Futures Markets in Chicago and the New York Stock Exchange. From the moment he first saw the "organized chaos" of the trading pits Dean explains he was fascinated by the markets and how they worked. He credits that trip as the start of his career. After 25 years working for several of the country's largest brokerage firms, Dean and his long time business partner, Mike, started Kimball Creek Partners, naming it after Kimball Creek, the last tributary to flow into the Snoqualmie River above Snoqualmie Falls in Western Washington. Inspired by its clear water they provide clear, life-giving advice that makes sense, flowing into people's lives, just like that pristine mountain stream. After the unexpected death of his partner in 2019, Dean had a reinforced connection to his passion for helping other people plan for what may come and enabling them to live their most fulfilled lives.

Kimball Creek Partners is based in Tacoma, Washington, however, they serve clients all over the country, with current clients in 15 states, and have helped four generations of families use their wealth for a meaningful purpose.
