Leonardo DiCaprio Kicks Off Summer With a Volleyball to the Face
It’s a cruel summer so far for Leonardo DiCaprio. No sooner did the solstice occur than the Academy Award winner emerged to seize upon the precious extra hours of daylight in his natural habitat: the beach volleyball court in Malibu, where he also spent last year’s hottest months horsing around with his celebrity bro pals. But this time, while facing off against none other than Robin Thicke, harrowing photos show what appears to be a bump-pass-gone-wrong, whacking DiCaprio in his beautiful face.
The prince of summer—see also: “Summer Leo”—is famous for Baz Luhrman’s Romeo + Juliet, which will remain hot to ’90s teens for all eternity; being long overdue for an Oscar (which he finally got in 2016 for The Revenant); dating models; and, of course, a long and rich history of loving the season. Leo’s summertime gladness typically includes beach volleyball with what TMZ refers to as his “’Bu Crew” (the new Pussy Posse, I guess), which last year included the likes of Ansel Elgort; snorkeling in charming Italian fishing villages with girlfriend Camila Morrone; and making out atop Citibikes.
Here’s hoping no permanent damage was done and his summer shenanigans can continue apace. Break out your cargo shorts: Leo’s favorite season has only just begun.
