Life Technologies buys South Korean partner KDR

CARLSBAD, Calif. (AP) -- Life science and medical research instrument maker Life Technologies Corp. said Friday it bought KDR Biotech Co., which has distributed its reagents in Korea since 1982.

The companies did not disclose terms of the deal. Life Technologies said it is working to expand its customer relationships in the Asia-Pacific region and increase revenue in South Korea, where the biotechnology market is growing quickly.

Reagents are substances that contribute to chemical reactions.

Life Technologies was formed by the combination of Invitrogen Corp. and Applied Biosystems Inc. in November 2008. Its shares rose 2 cents to $66.83 in midday trading.
