Ford invested $500 million into Rivian and announced that it would build a car on the company's skateboard platform back in April. The Blue Oval announced today that the Rivian-based electric car Ford's developing will be a Lincoln.

A Ford and Lincoln spokesperson confirmed that this was the vehicle originally referenced when the two companies announced the partnership.

"Right now we’re concentrating on our joint efforts tied to the all-new Lincoln fully electric vehicle," Dan Barbossa, a spokesperson for Ford, said to Road & Track in an email.

That means that, for now, no Ford-branded car built on the Rivian electric skateboard architecture is confirmed. If you want a Ford EV, the company is focused on the Mustang Mach-E and the yet-to-be-revealed all-electric F-150.

As for Lincoln, this'll be the first fully electric car from the brand. It'll complement the plug-in hybrid Aviator Grand Touring and Corsair Grand Touring in the marque's lineup, keeping with the current design theme of "Quiet Flight." We're light on details on the moment, but Lincoln's release emphasized the success of the company's four new SUVs.

That—and the company noting that the MKZ is going out of production this year—hints that sedans aren't currently a huge priority for Lincoln. Since the Rivian platform was built with a big SUV and pickup in mind, we wouldn't be surprised to see a premium large EV crossover sold alongside the Aviator and Navigator.
