A judge blocked New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg's sugary drink ban one day before it was supposed to go into effect.
Now, the mayor is holding a press conference to talk about what happened today.
New York Supreme Court Judge Milton Tingling wrote that the new regulations are "fraught with arbitrary and capricious consequences."
"It is arbitrary and capricious because it applies to some but not all food establishments in the City," the judge wrote. "It excludes other beverages that have significantly higher concentrations of sugar sweeteners and/or calories on suspect grounds."
The NYC Mayor's Office's official Twitter account tweeted today that it plans to " appeal the sugary drinks decision as soon as possible, and we are confident the measure will ultimately be upheld."
Well, now let's see what the mayor has to say. He's scheduled to go on at 5:30 P.M. EST, but is late.
More to come...
