Body positivity and inclusivity have been the buzzwords of fashion weeks around the world this year, as runways are increasingly featuring more diverse models.

Still, there has yet to be a show as inspiring and inclusive as this one: The International Dwarf Fashion Show debuted on a runway at Paris Fashion Week back in 2014, after Creative Business House CEO Myriam Chalek teamed up with the nonprofit organization Donnons Leur Une Chance (meaning “Let’s Give Them a Chance”) to raise awareness of dwarfism.

By tapping into the fashion industry, where little people are often forgotten, Chalek identified an opportunity for wider exposure of the condition and to eventually reverse the stereotypes associated with it.

Going down runways in Paris, New York, Tokyo, and Dubai, the International Dwarf Fashion Show has garnered great success. But most important, the show has spread a positive message. “Why should all models be tall?” is a question that the show poses to audiences who are getting a look at how inclusive beauty and fashion should be.

The shows also pack some surprises: During the Paris show, which featured all bridal looks, one model wore a live snake.

The snake being carried down the runway may have been the most intense part of the show, but it wasn’t necessarily the most memorable. What stands out from these nonprofit, inclusive fashion shows is their focus on breaking down stereotypes and showcasing the beauty of all of the women involved.
