Liverpool's clash with Cardiff as big as Barcelona tie, says Andy Robertson

Andy Robertson has insisted that Liverpool's clash with Cardiff is as big as their Champions League semi-final tie against Barcelona.

After beating Porto to book their place in the last four of Europe’s elite competition, attention now returns to the Premier League with Jurgen Klopp’s men once again a single point behind title rivals Manchester City.

Liverpool have the chance to reclaim the top spot this afternoon when they take on Neil Warnock’s side – but Robertson isn’t taking anything for granted against the relegation contenders.

Comparing today's trip to south Wales with the Champions League semi-final, Robertson said: “They are both as big as each other.

“Barcelona is far in the future. We cannot think about that. We are still going for a league title. We are fighting with Man City. Every game is as big as the next one.”

He added: “Cardiff had a magnificent result against Brighton. Warnock will have them up for it, all the players are fighting for their lives and they want to stay in this league.

“It’s a massive game. Hopefully, we can do enough.”

As for City’s showdown with Tottenham, Robertson said it made no difference if he and his teammates watched the clash.

“It has no bearing on us,” said Robertson. “We know it is out of our control. All we can do is impact our own games, so it makes no difference if we watch it or not.”
