A Louisville Cardinals sophomore is rejoining the football team following the firing of head coach Bobby Petrino, according to the Louisville Courier-Journal and cardinalsports.com.

Cornerback Russ Yeast announced his plan to transfer last week and did not make the trip to Syracuse, where Louisville lost, 54-23, on Friday night. The Cardinals are 2-8, winless in the Atlantic Coast Conference and on a seven-game losing streak.

According to the Courier-Journal, Yeast was back at team meetings Sunday night after Petrino was terminated that morning and is expected to practice this week. Louisville will host No. 14 North Carolina State and No. 11 Kentucky to close out the season.

Yeast is a former four-star recruit out of Center Grove High School near Indianapolis, where he was the star running back. Louisville coaches moved him to cornerback though he’s appeared in the first nine games of the season mostly on special teams as a returner.

Freshman quarterback Jordan Travis also decided to transfer this month, doing so before the 77-16 loss to Clemson. Three recruits decommitted from the program, leaving the smallest 2019 recruiting class in the ACC at 10.
