Lower prices steal Q4 profits

Nucor (NUE) said EPS fell 16% to 31 cents, in line with views. Revenue dipped nearly 8% to $4.45 bil, under views of $4.55 bil as the average price per ton of steel fell 4%. Shares fell 0.3% to 47.04. U.S. Steel (NYSE:X)reported a loss of 41 cents per share vs. a loss of $1.14 in '11. Analysts were expecting a 75-cent loss. Revenue dipped nearly 7% to $4.49 bil, above views. Shares fell 2.2% to 23.20. AK Steel (AKS) reported a loss of 30 cents per share vs. analyst estimates of a 35-cent loss. It posted a 51-cent loss last year. Revenue fell 6% to $1.42 bil, slightly above views. Shares fell 2% to 4.03.
