How Many Brightcove Inc. (NASDAQ:BCOV) Shares Did Insiders Buy, In The Last Year?

Simply Wall St

We've lost count of how many times insiders have accumulated shares in a company that goes on to improve markedly. The flip side of that is that there are more than a few examples of insiders dumping stock prior to a period of weak performance. So shareholders might well want to know whether insiders have been buying or selling shares in Brightcove Inc. (NASDAQ:BCOV).

What Is Insider Selling?

It is perfectly legal for company insiders, including board members, to buy and sell stock in a company. However, such insiders must disclose their trading activities, and not trade on inside information.

Insider transactions are not the most important thing when it comes to long-term investing. But it is perfectly logical to keep tabs on what insiders are doing. For example, a Harvard University study found that 'insider purchases earn abnormal returns of more than 6% per year.'

The Last 12 Months Of Insider Transactions At Brightcove

CEO & Director Hugh Ray made the biggest insider purchase in the last 12 months. That single transaction was for US$162k worth of shares at a price of US$8.09 each. That implies that an insider found the current price of US$10.06 per share to be enticing. Of course they may have changed their mind. But this suggests they are optimistic. We do always like to see insider buying, but it is worth noting if those purchases were made at well below today's share price, as the discount to value may have narrowed with the rising price. Happily, the Brightcove insider decided to buy shares at close to current prices. The only individual insider to buy over the last year was Hugh Ray.

Hugh Ray purchased 25000 shares over the year. The average price per share was US$8.16. You can see a visual depiction of insider transactions (by individuals) over the last 12 months, below.
