How Many Insiders Sold Perficient, Inc. (NASDAQ:PRFT) Shares?

In this article:

We often see insiders buying up shares in companies that perform well over the long term. On the other hand, we’d be remiss not to mention that insider sales have been known to precede tough periods for a business. So we’ll take a look at whether insiders have been buying or selling shares in Perficient, Inc. (NASDAQ:PRFT).

What Is Insider Selling?

It is perfectly legal for company insiders, including board members, to buy and sell stock in a company. However, rules govern insider transactions, and certain disclosures are required.

We don’t think shareholders should simply follow insider transactions. But it is perfectly logical to keep tabs on what insiders are doing. For example, a Harvard University study found that ‘insider purchases earn abnormal returns of more than 6% per year.’

Perficient Insider Transactions Over The Last Year

In the last twelve months, the biggest single sale by an insider was when Executive Officer Kathryn Henely sold US$1.0m worth of shares at a price of US$24.20 per share. So we know that an insider sold shares at around the present share price of US$23.39. While their view may have changed since the sale, this is not a particularly positive fact. Arguably, insider selling at around current prices should give us reason to reflect on whether the stock is fully valued at the moment.

Over the last year, we can see that insiders have bought 6.95k shares worth US$174k. But they sold 45.70k for US$1.1m. All up, insiders sold more shares in Perficient than they bought, over the last year. They sold for an average price of about US$24.41. It’s not ideal to see that insiders have sold at around the current price. While some insiders have decided to take some money off the table, we wouldn’t put too much weight on this fact. Insider purchases have outweighed sales, in the last three months. But the net investment is not enough to encourage us much.
