Elephant Learning Math Academy is providing a gamified platform for students of all ages to begin excelling in mathematics that only requires using the platform for six minutes a day over 13 weeks.

According to Dr. Aditya Dr. Nagrath, Founder of Elephant Learning, the education system in the United States is not adequately preparing children to begin learning mathematics at a young age when they enter kindergarten. This lack of preparation continues to hold children back as they progress through school, and as it has gone largely unaddressed it has created an absence of Americans going to work in the STEM field.

The world is moving into a more mathematical direction, which can be seen in the way business as a whole is becoming digitized. With the utilization of AI quickly becoming a component in many industries coupled with the already digitized landscape of businesses and everyday life, it is imperative that people begin understanding mathematics at a young age, which is what all of these aspects are rooted in.

To properly prepare children to excel in mathematics, Elephant Learning has developed a gamified online platform that can be accessed by mobile app or desktop. The curriculum was designed by Dr. Nagrath and a professor at the University of Denver, both of whom are mathematicians. The course enables students to begin advancing through simple mathematical puzzles and then as they progress they will test out of a module and begin gradually working towards more complex mathematical problems.

Dr. Nagrath has conducted research that proves the Elephant Learning curriculum enables students to learn one year of math in the span of three months. Dr. Nagrath says this is best achieved when using the platform for six minutes a day over the three month period. This time period is not a requirement, so children have the option of working through the curriculum at a slower or faster pace. The curriculum was designed by taking the most effective activities for teaching students mathematics as a conceptual language also known as conceptual mathematics.

The goal of Elephant Learning is to enable four and five-year-olds to have the ability to be prepared for the math curriculum when they start kindergarten. When the children are already able to comprehend the curriculum in a school setting they can better focus on the learning materials and avoid having to struggle to stay caught up or worry about falling behind with the mathematics learning material.

According to Dr. Nagrath, the issue of children entering kindergarten unprepared for the mathematical curriculum they will be taught, stems from not having the skills to understand what a teacher is speaking about in regard to math.

“Four out of five students enter kindergarten unprepared for the kindergarten curriculum. Fundamentally, this means that there is a gap in language in the numbers from 1 to ten. Many parents can get their child to say the numbers aloud, in order, but kindergarten as a prerequisite requires the student to be able to physically produce items up to ten, says Nagrath.

That gap in language occurs along income lines, where more affluent families can afford to send their students to preschool where it is ensured that they understand the language required for kindergarten teachers to be effective. Elephant Learning is an affordable alternative that is available to all parents and scholarship programs are available so that income is no longer the gap.”

Students who have a good understanding of mathematics and are able to excel in it have been shown to be more adept at writing, reading and speaking than their peers who struggle and fall behind in math. Dr. Nagrath says Elephant Learning is providing children and students of all ages with the tools to begin improving their knowledge in math. Platforms like Elephant learning is the way for the United States to begin graduating more people in the STEM field, which currently has an over abundance of vacancies.
