Matthew Stafford knocked out of Lions game after interception
Whatever hopes the Detroit Lions have in any season rest on the arm of Matthew Stafford. And now, those hopes may have just dimmed.
Playing the Baltimore Ravens, Stafford threw an interception into the arms of Ravens cornerback Marlon Humphrey. That was bad, but somehow in the ensuing scrum Stafford injured his hand. Cameras caught him grimacing in pain and shaking it on the sideline. Soon afterward, he was escorted back into the locker room for X-rays.

Oh, and his replacement? Somebody named Jake Rudock, who had never thrown a pass in a regular-season NFL game. His debut series didn’t go well: Eric Weddle picked off his pass and ran it back for a touchdown to put the Ravens up 44-20. Not great from any angle, as that was the final score of the ballgame.
Stafford’s hand was bruised, not broken, Lions head coach Jim Caldwell told reporters postgame.
